For years and years there have been rules dictating how we should/shouldn't dress...
Last night at the dinner table my sister (who is a small 4"11) asked me if she could wear maxi dresses as she's always been told not too... My reply..'who told you not too..of course you can!'
It got me thinking who decided on all these rules anyway?
So this post I am going to be contraversial and say ignore some of these rules. Yes some you must stick too in order to dress well (example: Don't show legs, boobs and tummy...put it away) but there are some rules that can be adapted slightly...
MY RULE: IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT ANYONE CAN PULL OF PRINTS.
We hear time after time women with a fuller body shape should avoid prints...well that's silly. Why shouldn't they be allowed to wear them?
If you do have a bigger bust or a larger frame then there are certain prints that will help enhance your shape:
Stick to two colours (e.g. navy and white/black and white/red and white)
Prints should be predominately dark with a splash of bright colour.
Try and wear all over even prints (same size all over the garment)
Be confident wearing it and have fun accessorising!
Candice Huffine is a beautiful model and it's refreshing to not see size 2/4 models every where after the fashion weeks!
Here's her modelling a Gucci swimsuit!
Print 1: Black base with splashes of colour and she's accessories with a thick bangle.
Print 2: Navy with white spots with gorgeous red accessories.
Print 3: Monochrome prints.
Print 4: You can wear horizontal patterns.
MY RULE: SMALLER GIRLS CAN WEAR THEM!
Who ever said little women can't wear maxi dresses clearly has no idea how to dress...I think maxi dresses/skirts look super cute on pint sized people!! Look at the smaller end of celebrities...they all wear them out and about in L.A!
Hints and tips on how to wear them:
Wear with a cropped blazer, denim jacket etc as it will give the illusion you are taller.
Belt it around the waist and bring the maxi dress up slightly so you can see your ankles.
Get a maxi dress with a loud print.
It's long enough to wear heels under...no one will ever know!
Lady Gaga: 5"1 in Sally LaPointe.
Peplum and black is super flattering! You would never know there is at least 9 inches between these two.
Hayden Panettiere: 5"
I love how she has layered this maxi dress and teamed it with an oversized bag. However an oversized bag will make you look teeny weeny.
Kim Kardashian: 5"2
Loud print will give the illusion Kim is a lot taller.
Love this print.
MY RULE: I SAY DO..!
Crop tops are huge this spring summer and one of my friends asked me if she could pull it off even though she's not a size 6 model. Well it's in fashion for a reason isn't it..!
DO IT.
Just bare these things in mind:
Wear with high waisted skirt/trousers/shorts.
Don't show too much leg/cleavage at the same time.
Show upper tummy...no belly buttons or below allowed please.
I love how you can see a tiny bit of tummy and the floaty maxi dress balances it all out.

She has hidden her legs and cleavage so can afford to have a bit more tummy out.

....there are rules in fashion but these rules are there to be broken.
Rebel and have fun doing it!

I love this post! Although I am not plus size, my 5'1 frame with a large chest makes people tell me what I should and should not wear. Bravo!
